How Long Does a Kitchen Renovation Take in Kitchener?

Before demo: design and ordering

Cabinet lead times are the long pole. Stock cabinets can be a week or two; semi-custom runs four to eight weeks; fully custom millwork can be ten or more. Countertops are templated only after the cabinets are installed, then take one to two weeks to fabricate. Appliances, especially anything panel-ready or out of the ordinary, should be ordered at the same time as the cabinets. We do not demo a kitchen until the cabinets have a confirmed ship date inside the schedule.

Week by week on site: a full same-layout renovation

Week 1: demolition and rough-in

Old cabinets, counters, backsplash and flooring come out. Plumbing and electrical rough-in follows: new circuits for the range, dishwasher, microwave and counter outlets, under-cabinet lighting, and any supply or drain changes. Week 2: inspections, drywall, paint, flooring

Week 6: finishing

Trim, toe kicks, hardware, panels, final appliance placement, caulking, touch-ups and the walkthrough.

What stretches a Kitchener kitchen timeline

Cabinet lead time not counted. The number one cause of "it took twice as long." Count it from the day you approve the design.
Layout changes. Moving the sink, adding an island with plumbing, or removing a wall adds rough-in, possibly structural work, and a permit.
Countertop templating. It cannot happen until cabinets are in, and fabrication takes a week or two. Nothing shortens this.
